Detectives in Fife have welcomed the sentencing of three men found guilty of murdering a local businessman following the most complex case ever undertaken by the force.

The convictions of Mo Siddique, Tencho Andonov and Deyan Nikolov for the murder of ‘Toby’ Siddique in Glenrothes on October 24 2010 brought to an end the largest investigation carried out by Fife Police in its 62-year history.

All three men were found guilty following a lengthy trial at the High Court, and the trio were all sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday.

Mo Siddique (42) Toby’s brother was sentenced to 25 years before he is even considered for parole and Nikolov was sentenced to 18 years, while Andonov (28), who was also convicted of the attempted murder of David Dalgleish, was sentenced to 29 years by Lord Kinclaven.

Detective Superintendent Colin Beattie, head of crime management for Fife Constabulary and who was in charge of the case, said at one stage about 80 of the force’s 1,400 staff were involved in the investigation, which cost the force in excess of £1.5 million.

He said: ”Thankfully such crimes are extremely rare in Fife. However, these convictions show that, whatever the gravity and magnitude of the crime, the police officers and staff of Fife Constabulary, alongside our partners, have the structures and processes in place to bring these killers to justice.”
