The husband of a missing St Andrews woman says she appears to have disappeared without trace.

Audrey Evans (57), a much-loved mother of four, was last seen over a week ago. Her husband Dafydd said: ”It’s as if she vanished into thin air.”

Speaking to The Courier, Mr Evans renewed his appeal for information which he hopes will lead to his wife being traced safe and well.

He said she has gone missing before but never for such a long time. He is holding on to the hope that she may have taken shelter somewhere but said staying positive was getting harder as each day passes.

”She went missing once before. She disappeared, not for a week but over about half a day, and she was found safe. That’s why we’re very concerned now. The police have been very thorough.

“They’ve searched the local area and teams have also carried out wider searches of Kinshaldy and around Ceres places we would frequent.”

Police forces throughout Scotland have been notified of Mrs Evans’ disappearance.

She has been missing from her home in Lindsay Gardens since Wednesday of last week and is described as being 5ft 3in and of medium build. She has short, dark hair which is greying and wears glasses. When last seen she had on a fleece with a pink top underneath, jeans and brown shoes.

”Everyone has been supportive but there’s no information at all,” Mr Evans said. ”We’re just trying to make sure people are kept aware.

“One hope we have, if she is still alive, is that she is being sheltered by somebody. We’re hoping that by raising awareness, if there is a sighting of her the police will be informed.

”We’re trying to stay positive but a week on it’s really, really tough.”

He added: ”She left the house without taking any money or a mobile phone or a bank card with her.”

Mr Evans said his wife of 35 years, who is a retired physiotherapist, had enjoyed good health until two years ago when she began to suffer from mental health problems.

He added: ”Mental illness is a terrible disease. It came out of the blue to rob us of a much-loved mother and wife.”

The couple have four grown-up children. The youngest is 21.

Fife Constabulary urged members of the public with any information about Mrs Evans to call immediately on 0845 600 5702.

A spokesman for the force said: ”We remain concerned and we are doing everything we can. We are working to support the family and are following all lines of inquiry.”
