Complaints about quad bikes in Levenmouth soar

Complaints about quad bikes in Levenmouth soar

Complaints about nuisance quad bikers across Levenmouth have soared in recent weeks, according to a Fife MSP.

Claire Baker said she had received a significant increase in calls from angry constituents since she raised the issue in the Scottish Parliament.

One of the calls was from an East Wemyss farmer who claimed his land had been damaged by bikes.

Mrs Baker, Labour MSP for mid Scotland and Fife, visited the farm this week with Glenrothes Parliamentary candidate Melanie Ward to inspect the damage.

The MSP said: “I have seen a significant increase in the number of complaints made to me in recent weeks regarding the use of anti-social behaviour and quad bikes, particularly since I raised the issue in Parliament.

“It is becoming clear that the inappropriate use of these vehicles is a real menace to locals, which is why Melanie and I are determined to help get local voices heard and support the police in tackling this problem.”

She added: “The police, through Operation Ducati, are making efforts to clamp down on those using their bikes inappropriately but we must ensure that they have all the tools in their box to deal with them.

“That’s why I asked the minister if his government is open to strengthening fixed penalty notices to ensure we can effectively deal with such problems and tackle anti-social behaviour.”

Mrs Baker is due to meet community safety minister Paul Wheelhouse again next week to discuss the issue in more detail and has urged anyone else affected by anti-social quad bikes to contact her.

Both the MSP and Melanie Ward have met with Levenmouth police about the matter and say they are pleased to see the action officers are taking yielding results.
