Glenrothes man set up Facebook page in ex-girlfriend’s name
ByThe Courier Reporter
A Fife man who bombarded his ex-partner with calls and set up a Facebook account in her name has appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Connor Duncan, 20, of Barrie Path, Glenrothes, admitted between September 15 and November 27 at King Street, Broughty Ferry, Barrie Path, Glenrothes, and elsewhere he engaged in conduct that caused Joanne McVey fear and alarm by repeatedly contacting or attempting to contact her by telephone and repeatedly attempting to pass on messages via her friends, set up social media accounts in her name and published statements purporting to be from her.
The court heard that Duncan had been in a relationship with Miss McVey for around a year until it ended in mid-September.
On November 27 three of her friends received a friend request on Facebook from someone purporting to be Miss McVey. Posts on that site included: “I need to stop texting boys that have a girlfriend or this wouldn’t happen to me.”
The friends came to the conclusion that Duncan had set up the account. Miss McVey had Facebook suspend the page and contacted the police.
Sheriff Richard McFarlane called for reports and deferred sentence on Duncan to April 2.
