Police arrest two men accused of hare coursing in Fife

Two men were arrested and charged with contravention of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 for engaging in hare coursing.

Police Scotland North East Fife officers responded to a call at West Friarton Farm, Newport On Tay where it was reported that persons were actively participating in hare coursing.

The 46 and 36 year-old men were found in the area in possession of whippet dogs and quickly detained before subsequently being charged.

They were later released to be reported by summons and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Gary Combe, said: “Thanks to the assistance and information provided by members of the public about this crime when the individuals were actually in the field allowed my officers to swiftly attend and intercept them during the commission of the crime.

“I would encourage anyone with information about the identity of people who engage in this type of criminal activity or believe that they are engaging in hare coursing to call Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111”.
