A teenage footballer’s wonder goal from 40 yards has gone viral.

Tiegan Clark, 17, scored in style for Raith Rovers Ladies and Girls FC under-17s at Edinburgh’s Easter Road stadium.

More than 45,000 people have seen her long-distance lob into the net since the club posted the video on its Facebook page.

The Kirkcaldy schoolgirl’s moment of glory came in the 50th minute of an East/South East league decider against Hibs Girls under-17s, when the team were down 2-0.

Although the Raith girls lost the match 3-2, Tiegan’s fancy footwork, filmed by Youth Football Scotland, was a winner.

The Kirkcaldy High School pupil said: “I knew that the keeper had gone to the edge of her box to kick the ball. When I looked up she wasn’t back on her line so I hit it, hoped for the best and it went in.

“All the people that came to watch were up on their feet. It felt really good. I knew when it went in that we were back in the game.”

Tiegan, who has played with the club since she was 10 and is due to join the ladies’ team next season, said she was amazed by the attention her goal has received.

Her stunning half volley echoed that of Irish footballer Stephanie Roche, who narrowly missed out on becoming the first woman to win the FIFA award for goal of the year.

Miss Roche, 25, scored in front of just 95 people for Peamount United against Wexford, and was beaten only by James Rodriguez to the Puskas Award.

Her goal earned her an invitation to the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Zurich alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
