Tommy Sheridan, the well-known campaigner, activist and former MSP, is to deliver a speech in Kirkcaldy giving his thoughts on what independence for Scotland could mean.
A long-time supporter of independence, Mr Sheridan believes the time has come for the people to vote for the kind of future they want to have.
He has been invited to Kirkcaldy by local supporters of independence and will give his talk at St Bryce Kirk on Thursday January 23.
Organiser Marie Penman is looking forward to an evening of ideas and discussion.
She said: “I heard Tommy Sheridan speak in Kirkcaldy a couple of months ago, when he attended a meeting of the Fife Anti-Bedroom Tax campaign and was hugely impressed.
“I’ve never seen anyone hold the attention of the audience the way he did and contacted him afterwards to invite him to speak on independence.
“This is a chance to hear a different point of view on what a Yes vote could mean. I would urge anyone who is undecided on the referendum to come along on the 23rd.
“I’m pretty sure Tommy Sheridan is capable of changing people’s minds on this.”
The event begins at 7pm and is free and open to all, with the opportunity to ask questions on the night.
Mr Sheridan said: “Voting Yes is about making Scotland a better place for the people who live there, about making our own decisions.
“The majority of Scots oppose nuclear weapons, support the welfare state and disagree with drastic Westminster policies such as the bedroom tax and benefit cuts. As it stands, Scottish people have no say in these policies.”
