A body found on the West Wemyss shoreline has been confirmed as that of missing man Jason Buchan.
The 35-year-old had been reported missing along with Birrell Stewart, 30, and David Stead, 47, on Monday 10 August after their fishing vessel capsized in the Firth of Forth.
A member of the public made the discovery at around 1pm and a formal identification was subsequently carried out.
In a statement, the Buchan family said: “Words cannot describe our feelings at this time.
“The death of Jason has left our family heartbroken.
“Jason was a loving son, brother, father of three, partner and friend.
“Our thoughts are with the friends and families of David Stead who is still missing and Birrell Stewart.
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the local community, which has coming together to offer support, help and strength, and their actions have directly lead to the discovery of Jason.
“Thank you to the emergency services for their hard work during the search for Jason.
“We would ask for privacy whilst we come to terms with our loss.”
Mr Buchan is the second man to be traced in connection with the fishing boat tragedy.
Birrell Stewart was airlifted from the water on the same day the vessel capsized and was transferred to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where he died.
The search for Mr Stead is continuing, say police, with chief inspector Adrian Annandale, adding: “It is with sadness that we can confirm the body of Jason Buchan has been recovered.
“My thoughts are with Mr Buchan’s family at this very difficult time.
“Our investigation continues with regards to David Stead.
“I would again ask anyone with information that may assist with our enquiries to please contact Police Scotland on 101.”
Meanwhile, forensic analysis of the human remains found on the West Sands in St Andrews on 16 and 17 August, are not thought to be connected to the fishing boat tragedy.
Analysis is continuing to confirm the identity of the remains.
