The father of a missing Glenrothes man has described his torment after making a complaint against the police force leading the search for his son

Allan Bryant described his meeting with officers from Police Scotland’s professional standards department as “the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do”.

His son, Allan Jr, has been missing following a night out with friends in November 2013, with his family having complained about the way that the police has conducted its investigation into his disappearance.

Having launched a formal complaint against the Fife-based investigation team, senior police officials from Glasgow met with Mr Bryant earlier this week.

“The meeting lasted three hours and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” he told The Courier.

“It was so stressful but the officers were very professional and took everything we said seriously.

“They picked up everything that we told them and now it is just a matter of time and waiting for us to be contacted again.”

Allan Jr was 23 when he disappeared after a night out with friends on November 3 2013.

He had been at Styx Nightclub on Caskieberran Road, with CCTV footage showing him leaving the venue in the early hours of the morning.

High-profile appeals have been made by both his family and the police, while searches have been conducted throughout the town.

There is still no trace of Allan Jr, who would now be 25.

The Bryant family have been critical of the police investigation into their son’s disappearance, complaining about delays in releasing CCTV footage from the nightspot and not being informed of searches taking place.

Police Scotland, however, has always maintained that the search for Allan Jr has been the largest missing person search ever conducted in Fife, and that there remains no evidence of criminality relating to his disappearance.

Mr Bryant, however, has called for a new team to take on the case, saying: “The only thing that I want is to get a new force from outside Fife investigating Allan’s disappearance.

“I don’t know if that can happen, but that’s what I want.

“I really hope that I don’t have to go through that again.

“The last thing that I want to have to do is fight the police”
