The amount of home care time given to the most vulnerable people in Fife dropped by 17% in just four months.
New figures show that, following a review process put into place last July, the number of hours of home care reduced from 24,805 in the summer to 20,573 by November.
SNP candidate for the Cowdenbeath by-election, Natalie McGarry, slammed the process.
She said: “The revelation that so many older people in Fife have seen the amount of care they receive at home cut so drastically is just sickening.
“Such a sharp cut in such a short space of time clearly shows that Labour-led Fife Council are simply cutting provision and not putting individual needs first.”
However, Martin Thom, head of older people services at Fife Council, said the reviews were necessary to ensure people got appropriate levels of care.
He added: “Fife Council is committed to regularly review the services that people receive through the social work service, including home care.
“Reviews are important to ensure that any service we provide continues to meet the needs of the service user and care plans are adjusted to meet the individual’s needs as necessary.”
Labour leader Johann Lamont has previously been extremely critical of shortened care visits, which she blamed on a lack of Scottish Government funding.
