Storm Frank: Fife escapes worst of disruption

Fife escaped the worst of Storm Frank.

Although wind and rain swept through the region, there were no reports of road closures or weather-related disruptions to public transport.

A Cupar wall collapsed, however, after heavy rain caused a burn running through the town to swell.

The wall at East Burnside gave way at the weekend after a Boxing Day downpour.

Nobody was injured in the incident and two nearby houses under construction were not affected.

James Penman from Meiklem Drainage was involved in the clean-up operation at the Lady Burn.

He said: “The weather has been horrendous. When the wall collapsed the burn was in full spate.

“The wall is now 100% secure. They’ve started building two houses there but they are fine.”

There has been extensive work in Cupar to prevent a repeat of past floods.
