The former partner of a serial sex attacker who beat her and raped her as she slept has urged other women experiencing domestic violence to seek help.
In an interview with The Courier, Kira Dixon, 28, of Fife, waived her right to anonymity to expose the violence she endured at the hands of ex-fianc David McDougall.
Giving a graphic account of the extensive injuries she suffered during the turbulent relationship and of the times she fought back, she revealed how she felt as if her “heart had been ripped out by a monster” and how she felt as if she had been “let down”.
However, nothing could prepare her for the moment police investigations revealed that her partner had raped numerous women before.
She was also “sickened” that such a dangerous man was released on bail after she reported him, giving him the opportunity to rape a woman with learning difficulties just five days later.
At the High Court in Edinburgh last month, McDougall was finally found guilty of six rapes and other sex assaults and branded a “risk to every woman he meets”.
On Friday he was expected to receive a lengthy jail sentence at the High Court in Glasgow. However, sentence has now been deferred until April to investigate the possibility of a lifelong restriction order.
