A Glenrothes company that was Scotland’s biggest provider of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, has gone into administration at the cost of around 50 jobs in Fife.
It’s understood 152 jobs have been lost between Fife and at subsidiaries in Surrey, Manchester and Doncaster.
Administrators BDO confirmed ID Scotia’s money troubles have also left 152 former employees waiting for wages.
Just nine employees have been kept on at the 30-year-old business, based at Nasmyth Road, Glenrothes.
Councillor Altany Craik, Glenrothes area chairman, said: “It will be a massive hit in Glenrothes as an industrial town and will have a huge impact on the local economy.”
He continued: “They’re in a specific market so I don’t know who they will be replaced by.
“But the human impact of it is the really hard part. I really feel for the people who have had to go home to their families and say ‘I have been made redundant’.”
ID Scotia also provided services for Fife Council and Edinburgh and Glasgow universities.
Dermot Power, joint administrator and business restructuring partner at BDO, said: “The joint administrators were appointed over Ensco 948 Limited, ID Fire & Security Limited, ID HVAC & Energy Limited & Scotia Energy Saving Systems Limited on August 2.
“Unfortunately, the economic climate and difficult trading conditions significantly affected the business.
“It was not possible to achieve a sale of the business and assets prior to the administration, and on appointment 152 employees were made redundant.”
