Fife voters will be among the last to know election results

Voters in Fife will be among the last in Scotland to learn who has been elected as their new MSP after the council’s decision to hold the counts on Friday.

Results from the main Holyrood constituencies administered by Fife Council Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Mid Fife and Glenrothes, and North East Fife are not likely to be known until the afternoon, while it could be early evening before we find out how Fife voted on the possibility of voting reform.

The move to delay the counts sparked anger from a cross-section of political candidates, but Fife Council has defended its decision saying constraints imposed on the count, largely because of the AV referendum being held on the same day, means a Friday morning count is better.

Teams of staff will begin counting at venues across Fife at 8am, progressing through the constituency vote, regional list vote and the referendum vote.

Most of the action will be at the traditional count venue in Glenrothes, the Fife Institute, although counting will take place in three other venues.
