A fun day organised in aid of Cupar soldier Darren Lackie’s memorial fund has been held in the town.
Cash raised from the event will go toward the establishment of new youth facilities in the town.
Black Watch soldier Darren (21) died on holiday with girlfriend Ashleigh in Portugal last month. He died in hospital three days after being found unconscious in the popular Albufeira resort.
Police initially put his death down to an accidental fall but his father Graham believes he and Ashleigh had their drinks spiked and that Darren was then murdered. Investigations into his death are continuing.
Efforts to ensure that Darren’s memory lives on in his home town stepped up a gear on Sunday, courtesy of the fun day hosted by the Golf Tavern.
Family friend Rod Whyte set up the Darren Durrant Lackie Memorial Fund. Its aim is “to establish a common good fund for Cupar furthering the well-being and advancement of Cupar young citizens from toddlers to teens.”
A “justice account” is also being established to assist with legal, financial and travel costs should they arise as investigations into Darren’s death continue.
