Youngsters and coaches who represented Fife at this year’s Youth Olympiad Games have been praised for their medal haul.
More than 200 Fifers were at the triennial event in Alba, Italy, and returned with a bagful of medals.
Organising secretary Aileen Penny said: “Now, once we have got our breath back, we can start looking at the next Olympiad which is scheduled to take place in Turkey in 2014.”
Youths took part in athletics, badminton, basketball, football, judo, karate, swimming, volleyball and tennis.
Among the medal winners were the tennis team who picked up two golds, with Morven McCulloch from St Andrews winning both the singles and doubles, partnered by Robyn Graham from Dunshalt.
The karate team brought home three golds, six silvers and eight bronze medals.
In judo, both Sandie Ferguson from Kirkcaldy and Callum Donald from Glenrothes won bronze medals, while the badminton team took three bronzes.
The swimming team collected three bronze medals in the 200m freestyle female, 400m freestyle female and the 100m medley male.
In football the young men won bronze, but were tied with two other teams on 13 points in the round robin. Their medal was decided by the teams’ scores against each other.
The female football team also reached the bronze medal play-off, winning 2-1 against the Boblingen girls.
Naomi Fox from Dunfermline, Niall Curley from Markinch and Emma Logan from Cupar took gold in athletics.
Although Fife failed to scoop medals in both basketball and volleyball, their coaches were still impressed with their spirit and effort.
