Fortunate Fifers James and Claire Lockhart are celebrating after scooping £10,000 on the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The young parents from Auchtermuchty could not believe their luck when their postcode was selected as the winning Saturday Street Prize.

The boost for the Hearts fans came just after they watched their team win their way into the Scottish Cup final, giving them two reasons to celebrate.

Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt arrived at their home to tell them postcode KY14 7LB had been pulled out the bag and present them with their cheque.

Ticket holder James (41) was at work with local recycling firm Viridor but Claire and 16-month-old daughter Gabi were at home to collect their prize.

Claire (31), who works for Lloyds Banking Group, returned to work part-time in August after having Gabi. She now works in the evenings to allow her to look after Gabi during the day, while James takes over the childcare at night.

Claire said: ”I just can’t believe it. Winning this amount of money just makes everything so much easier.”

She added: ”Trying to juggle childcare whilst working means James and I are like passing ships sometimes and we live for weekends. We were planning on a family holiday to the Isle of Skye in September but with this win we can now think about going abroad.”

The Lockharts had just bought hospitality tickets for the cup final against Hibs at Hampden on May 19, and Claire said: ”We were trying to justify the cost of the tickets but now we needn’t worry. The £10,000 isn’t going to dramatically change things but it will definitely add a bit of comfort to our lives.”

In addition to the £10,000 winning ticket, a further 161 people in the postcode sector KY14 7 won £20 per ticket.

As a charity lottery, players of the People’s Postcode Lottery have raised more then £17.6 million for good causes across the country. Charities helped include Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre in Kirkcaldy, and Strathmiglo toddler group Busy Bee’s which was able to upgrade its facilities and toys with a £1,900 grant.
