Sheku Bayoh death investigators urge car drivers to come forward

The organisation investigating the death of Kirkcaldy man Sheku Bayoh has urged drivers who may have witnessed his encounter with police to come forward.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner to carry out an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of 31 year old Sheku Ahmed Tejan Bayoh in Kirkcaldy on Sunday May 3.

Mr Bayoh had been detained by police shortly before his death.

The public appeal for potential witnesses follows an extensive review of CCTV coverage of the morning of Mr Bayoh’s death from Hayfield Road and Hendry Road in Kirkcaldy.

The PIRC would like to speak to the drivers of nine vehicles seen in the area between 7.10am and 7.25am who might have information relevant to the ongoing investigation. They are:

A small grey hatchback-style five door car turning right onto Hendry Road.

A larger white family-style saloon five door car turning right onto Hayfield Road, with a possible taxi plate at the back.

A small silver car turning right into Hayfield Road.

A larger black car, possibly a SUV-style vehicle, turning left into Hayfield Road.

A silver van, possibly with a taxi logo on the side, turning into Hendry Road.

A small dark car turning left onto Hayfield Road.

A grey/blue car turning left onto Hayfield Road.

A white 4×4 turning left into Hayfield Road.

A small black car turning left into Hayfield Road.

Investigators said that any sighting is relevant to the enquiry.

Any person recognising their own vehicle, or the vehicle of someone they know from the CCTV images or footage, is asked to contact the PIRC on 01698 543291.
