Seeking support for Perth and Kinross Credit Union
ByNews reporter
Councillors have taken to the streets of Perth to rally support for the idea of a local credit union.
Perth and Kinross Council is backing the local Citizens Advice Bureau, which is working to establish the feasibility of developing a union.
It would be open to anyone living or working in Perth and Kinross and would entitle them to access affordable loans and other financial services or support.
To help make the project a reality in Perth, 700 pledges of support are needed from local people before the end of the year.
So far around half of this number of pledges have been received.
To make a pledge, or for more information, visit www.pkcu.org.uk or contact Mairi MacGregor on 01738 450599.
A credit union is a co-operative financial institution owned and controlled by its members and is operated for the purpose of providing credit at reasonable rates, and providing other financial services to its members.
Credit unions have more than 186 million members in 97 countries across the world.
