What with the restoration of city status, hosting the Olympic torch relay and receiving a visit from Her Majesty The Queen, it’s been a big year for Perth.

Now efforts are being made to capture these historic moments for future generations with the launch of a photography competition.

Locals are being asked to submit their snaps that showcase the best of the area, with particular focus on the events of the last 12 months.

Organised by Perth and Kinross Council and Scone Palace, the competition is open to everyone and features several categories covering the various major events of this year.

A number of local businesses have pledged their support of the competition by donating prizes, with main sponsor T Paterson jewellers providing a voucher worth £250 for the overall winners, while E-Computers and PC Solutions are offering a printer and laptop with photo software, respectively.

A prize-giving ceremony will take place at the end of September at Scone Palace, hosted by the Provost and Lady Stormont.

The winning images will then go on display at the palace before being put on show in Perth city centre.

Provost Liz Grant said: ”This has been a superb year for our area, with the granting of city status and a host of major events taking place.

”2012 has really showcased the best of Perth and Kinross.

”The local people have come out and done the area proud during all the events that were arranged to mark this special year.

”I know many people will have captured these once-in-a-lifetime events on camera and I hope they will enter their best photographs into this competition.”

She also expressed her gratitude to the support shown by local retailers.

”Together, all the photos will provide a unique record of what has so far been a truly memorable year,” Provost Grant continued.

”We are also looking for special photos of Perthshire that were not necessarily taken at the events.”

All entries should be sent to photocomp@pkc.gov.uk.
