The man killed in a collision between a lorry and a car on the A9 at Ballinuig has been named by police.

Fifty-three year old John Trimble from Cumbernauld died at the scene following the accident which occurred at 7.50am just north of the slip road at Ballinluig.

Mr Trimble was given treatment at the scene by GP Stephen Bird, who was en route to Skye at the time, but died at the scene.

Mr Trimble’s family said that he will be greatly missed but have requested that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.

The incident caused traffic chaos with motorists prevented from travelling north on the route for hours.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Enquiries into the full set of circumstances of the incident are on-going and Tayside Division would appeal for anyone who may have information that could assist officers with their enquiries to contact Tayside Division on 101.

“As with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Tuesday’s incident was the first serious crash on the A9 since a network of average speed cameras on the road went live.
