Nurse to face disciplinary hearing after Meigle care home fall

A nurse accused of failing to properly check an elderly woman for injuries after a fall is to face the nursing watchdog.

Susan Blair, who was working at Meigle Country House care home at the time of the incident in 2013, will appear before the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) on January 7.

It is alleged that on September 15 2013 Ms Blair incorrectly wrote in the patient notes that the fall occurred at 4pm, when it had happened at 9am.

She is also accused of failing to complete an assessment of the woman named only as Resident A after her fall, and of moving her inappropriately.

She is further accused of failing to complete observations of Resident A.

An additional charge alleges that she put the name of the wrong resident on the accident report form related to the fall.

On September 9, she is alleged to have failed to complete Resident A’s admission paperwork by omitting a risk assessment for the restraint care plan, failing to complete a restraint care plan and failing to obtain written consent for the restraint of Resident A from next of kin.

It is also said that she failed to obtain an alert mat for Resident A, despite recording that she needed one, and that she failed to tell other staff members in a handover that such a mat was needed.
