A man has been charged in connection with the alleged supply and trafficking of legal highs around Tayside.
The charge is the first move of its kind for the region.
Since September 2013, as part of Operation Carinate, police officers have been clamping down on the new psychoactive substances and they have now arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with their inquiries.
It is understood that the charges brought against him include the alleged supply and trafficking of the legal highs.
The police are now in the process of presenting the case to the procurator fiscal, who will then decide whether to take the case to court.
Selling the substances is not illegal but it is understood that a potentially landmark prosecution could be brought for the offence of reckless conduct.
Offenders in England have been successfully prosecuted for supplying legal highs.
