The partner of a woman killed in a two-vehicle crash in Kinross-shire has paid tribute to the “fun-loving” engineer.

Brenda Donaldson, from Crook of Devon, was driving a dark grey Citroen Xsara when it was involved in a collision with a pick-up truck on the A977 on Friday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 7.11am and a crew from Alloa was dispatched in an attempt to free the 55-year-old, who was reported as trapped in the vehicle.

A medical student who had been parked in a layby at the scene also attempted to help Ms Donaldson, but she died at the scene.

Ms Donaldson was a structural and civil engineer and was one of the first women to graduate in her field from Glasgow University.

Most recently she was employed by Tayside Contracts in the Angus area.

She was on her way to work when the collision occurred.

Alexander Johnston, the man she shared her life with for 24 years, said she would be greatly missed.

“I am devastated by what happened on Friday morning,” he said. “I am missing her already.

“At work she was devoted to getting things done, and getting it done correctly and within financial constraints.

“At home she was an avid book reader. Our home is filled with books, and she would get through three a week.

“She was just a fun-loving person and she loved cats.”

He added that he had many treasured memories of their time together, including the two and a half years they spent living in Hong Kong.

He also thanked neighbours and family for their support following the tragedy.

Iain Waddell, managing director at Tayside Contracts, added: “Brenda’s tragic death has been a shock to all of us at Tayside Contracts.

“As the works manager responsible for our roads maintenance operations in the Angus area she has been a key and valued member of our organisation, as well as a friend, and will be sorely missed.

“Our thoughts are with her family at this very sad time.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Inquiries into the full set of circumstances of the incident are ongoing, and Tayside Division would appeal for anyone who may have information that could assist officers to contact us on 101.

“As with all sudden deaths, a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
