‘End of an era’ Perth post office closes its doors for the last time

Staff and customers at Perth’s main post office marked the end of an era on Wednesday when the South Street branch closed.
A new branch within WH Smith in the High Street opens on Thursday but not all staff are transferring over, with some moving to other post offices rather than the new facility.
MP Pete Wishart expressed his sadness and reservations.
“Today sees the end of an era as the Crown Post Office on South Street, closes its doors for the last time following a decision which I and many others in Perth opposed and still feel was the wrong thing to do and was commercially driven, rather than service led,” he said.
