Hunt for thieves who threatened pensioner with screwdriver
ByJamie Buchan
Thugs armed with a screwdriver forced their way into a 76-year-old woman’s home and robbed her of more than £10,000 worth of cash and jewellery.
Detectives have stepped up their hunt for the callous pair who targeted pensioner Catherine Davies’ home at Balado, near Kinross.
During the terrifying ordeal, one of the intruders brandished a screwdriver and ordered the retired nurse to stay in her living room, while the second man ransacked her bedroom upstairs.
Police set up roadblocks around the scene around lunchtime on Wednesday to stop motorists and quiz them about last week’s incident.
Detective inspector Paul Riley, who is leading the inquiry, said they are keen to trace a man who claimed to be a gardener who went to Mrs Davies home moments before she was robbed.
