Big plans for Perth city west expansion

Ambitious plans have been drawn up for a massive development to the west of Perth, which will include 3,000 houses, a primary school and vital changes to road infrastructure.

The Lamberkin Trust is behind the Perth City West Project, which aims to make “improvements” to the Broxden roundabout, remove the Tibbermore junction on the busy A9 Perth to Stirling road, as well as create cycle routes and “sustainable neighbourhoods.”

Some residents have been consulted about the proposals and have given a favourable reaction to them.

The trust believes its proposal support Perth and Kinross Council’s new development plan and wider City Vision, which promotes a strategic, mixed use development.

A trust spokesman told The Courier that the plan encompasses 3,000 houses, a school and neighbourhood centres.

“The Perth City West site is zoned for 3,000 houses over a 20-year period, 25 hectares of employment land and amenities, including a primary school, neighbourhood centres and a potential district heating system,” he said.

“The landowners have jointly submitted a proposal of application notice to the council, which is a precursor to advancing a planning application, and it is intended to enable a process to be agreed with the council and community on public consultation and engagement with the project masterplan.

“A key consideration for the project team is working closely and constructively with Methven and District Community Council.”

The trust spokesman added: “We recognise the sensitivities such projects raise and the importance of an open, meaningful and comprehensive discussion on a range of issues.

“Our team will work closely with the community council as the planning process progresses to ensure community views inform the project.”

The spokesperson revealed that “key issues” discussed with residents related to access and the proposal to relocate and upgrade the Tibbermore junction on the A9 and improvements to the Broxden junction, overall masterplan principles, phasing and advanced landscaping.

Kenny Simpson, chairman of Methven and District Community Council, said the “biggest” part of the proposal is that “all the land” in question is owned by the Lamberkin Trust.

“I was very impressed by the plans,” he said. “Part of the proposal includes changes to the Broxden Roundabout and it would also take away the junction at the Tibbermore road on the A9 Perth to Stirling road.”
