Multiple vehicles have been involved in a smash on the M90 at Bridge of Earn.

Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly before 9pm where were nine people injured, four of whom are being conveyed to Perth Royal Infirmary with what are described as ‘minor injuries’.

The other four people injured in the five vehicle crash were treated at the scene by paramedics and have been discharged.

It is thought all of the injured people are adults.

The incident took place on the southbound carriageway just after Bridge of Earn and it is believed that one vehicle ended up on its roof.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received several calls shortly before 9pm of a multiple vehicle road traffic collision.

“We have five casualties who are going to hospital. They all have minor injuries and are all going to Perth Royal Infirmary.

“Initially we checked over nine casualties of which four were discharged after being treated at the scene by paramedics.”

The ambulance service sent several ambulances and specialist response team, but had to request more resources from across Tayside and Fife shortly after the accident.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed there was no one trapped in vehicles but that crews are working alongside police to make the area safe.

Police Scotland added that the road is currently closed southbound in the aftermath of the accident and diversions are in place.
