Crieff bomb scare: army team remove ‘dummy’ device

Explosive experts have removed a suspected bomb from a park in Crieff.

Army officers arrived at the town’s Market Park early this morning after a keen treasure hunter found the metal object buried underground on Wednesday evening.

The shell is now thought to have been a dummy, used in training during the second world war.

Members of the army bomb disposal team, who were drafted in from their base in Edinburgh, simply walked up to practice shell, picked it up and bagged it before driving away.

Police had placed a cordon around the site overnight, but stressed that residents were at no immediate risk.

The man who made the discovery on Wednesday, Archie McGilligan, said: “Some people find gold and I find bombs!”
