French student caught drink-driving by taxi driver

A French student who drove while more than twice the limit has been banned from Britain’s roads.

At Perth Sheriff Court Nohane Langevillier, 28, Nugent Drive, Scone, admitted driving along the A94 while under the influence of alcohol on June 8. A breath test revealed he had 83mics of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Langevillier was caught after asking a taxi driver to take him from a pub in Perth to where his car was parked in Balbeggie.

Depute fiscal Robbie Brown said that during the course of the journey the taxi driver began to suspect that Langevillier planned to drive home. Upon arriving at Balbeggie, the driver watched as Langevillier drove off and decided to follow him.

Linda Clark, defending, said Langevillier was unaware of the alcohol limits in Scotland. She said he had been returning to his car because he had left a laptop in the car but instead of locking it in his boot and returning home by taxi, he decided to drive.

Sheriff William Wood disqualified Langevillier from holding a driving licence for 20 months, to be reduced by four months if he returns to the UK to complete a drink-driving awareness course. He also fined him £400.
