Grand National-winning jockey Ryan Mania will be the star attraction at the opening of the Perth Racing Museum this week.
The Scot, who in the past two weeks has enjoyed a hero’s welcome in his hometown of Galashiels and endured a hospital stay after a serious fall, will help celebrate 400 years of racing in the city.
The announcement comes as Perth Racecourse celebrates becoming the latest recipient of a Gold Standard award from the Racehorse Owners Association.
It impressed with the warm welcome that it consistently provides to owners and also its food and beverage offering.
“General manager Sam Morshead and his friendly team do a very good job for owners and it is always a pleasure to have a runner at this beautiful track,” said the ROA’s Steven Astaire.
“We have been particularly impressed by the improvements to the owners’ and trainers’ facilities, and the commitment of the racecourse to owners in terms of prize money.”
Perth will receive its award on Friday, the third day of the Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer April Festival, which kicks off the birthday celebrations.
Mr Morshead said: “At Perth, racehorse owners are very important to us and we shall endeavour to continue to enhance their race day experience.”
