Dundee and Perth are joining forces in a bid to bring the headquarters of the new single Scottish police force to Courier Country.
Civic leaders will try to exploit fears over the potential for a “Strathclyde-centric” force should the base be moved from its interim location at Tulliallan police college, near Stirling.
Dundee Council is to join with Perth and Kinross Council to make pitches to the Scottish Police Authority and Scottish Government for relocation to Tayside.
Such a move would mean a massive influx of jobs and business to the area.
The drive will begin with an appeal by the Tayside Joint Police Board to Scottish ministers.
The board’s convener, Dundee councillor Jimmy Black, said: “The headquarters could easily come to Dundee or Perth.”
