Action to improve road safety and parking in an area of Perth is being driven through by the council.
A 20’s Plenty speed limit is being introduced in Gannochy to ease fears that the roads are being used as a “rat run” to avoid A94 traffic lights at Main Street, Bridgend and Dundee Road.
The move has been welcomed by local councillor Peter Barrett.
He said: “Reducing the speed limit on all the roads throughout Gannochy will bring about a significant improvement in road safety for the benefit of local residents.
“The new junction lay-out at Gannochy Road, at the former main entrance to Murray Royal, restricts drivers’ ability to scoot inside waiting traffic and up Muirhall Road.
“This is going to put a lot of drivers off cutting through Gannochy as a short-cut or to save time.
“The new junction lay-out has shortened crossing distances, making it safer for pedestrians, and the 20mph speed limit will be an enforceable deterrent to speeding drivers.”
Mr Barrett has also pressed the case for raising traffic orders for parking restrictions in Gannochy and along a substantial length of Muirhall Road.
He said: “Yellow lines on Muirhall Road will preserve the high amenity that the Millennium Park and green areas offer, as well as ensuring adequate visibility splays for hospital traffic. The proposals for Gannochy will improve access, visibility and safety at a further five junctions in the neighbourhood.”
