Police have warned the annual arrival of up to 8000 Jehovah”s Witnesses could cause considerable congestion to routes around Perth”s Crieff Road at the weekend.
Perth District Jehovah’s Witnesses hold their annual convention at McDiarmid Park from Friday to Sunday.
Thousands of members have been coming to the town for the past 15 years.
A spokesman for Tayside Police said there will be “significantly more traffic” on the approaches to the venue, particularly on the A85 at West Huntingtower/A9 Perth Bypass junctions and Crieff Road.
Peak traffic periods will be between 8 and 9.20am each day and 4.30 to 5.30pm on Friday and Saturday and 3.30 to 4.30pm on Sunday.
The spokesman said, “Tayside Police will be assisting the event organisers with traffic management so as to minimise delays and inconvenience wherever possible.
“However, it is anticipated there will be some delays and drivers are asked to allow additional time for their journeys if they are travelling during the peak periods that have been highlighted.
“On Friday morning in particular there is expected to be an impact on drivers travelling to work.
“Additional time should be factored into these journeys by drivers.
“Tayside Police thanks those concerned in advance for their co-operation and requests that drivers exercise patience during these periods as officers strive to keep delays to a minimum.”
