Co-founder of the Perth Strathspey and Reel Society John Napier has died aged 74.
Described as a keen fiddle player by wife Elizabeth, he set up the group with several friends in 1989.
Originally a member of Dunkeld and District Strathspey and Reel Society, Mr Napier formed his own group and won support and encouragement from fellow musicians. He was its leader and conductor until retiring in 2007.
Born near Ballinluig and brought up in Forgandenny, Mr Napier went to Auchterarder junior secondary.
At 15 he became a message boy at Barclay, Ross and Hutchinson in Perth. It was taken over by Jack Olding Engineers and he became an apprentice millwright, then worked in grain drying.
He soon rose up the ranks and became a representative for the firm.
Mr Napier left to take on similar opportunities at other agricultural and industrial firms and retired in 2002.
In 1959 he met Elizabeth at a wedding and the couple married in Brechin two years later and had a daughter, Sandra.
Mr Napier is survived by Mrs Napier, Sandra, son-in-law Billy and granddaughter Sarah.
