Former Dundee councillor Mr Peter Court

Former Dundee councillor Mr Peter Court

Former Dundee Labour councillor Peter Court has died at home at the age of 60.

Mr Court was a member of Dundee District Council for the Gillburn ward from 1980-1990, where he served as convener of the finance committee and depute leader of the Labour administration.

He was also chairman of the Dundee Labour Party for many years.

Mr Court was an active trade unionist, serving as shop steward convener at Michelin in Dundee, where he worked for 35 years.

Originally from Glasgow, Mr Court moved to Dundee in the early 1970s and, apart from a brief period in London, had been here ever since.

Dundee West MP Jim McGovern said, “Peter was a big man with a very big heart and a big friend of mine.

“He worked with me in the 2005 and 2010 general elections, and on both occasions he was more or less my boss, telling me where I had to be and who I had to speak to, and doing it all extremely well.”

He added, “Peter will be badly missed in local political circles, not only by those in the Labour Party, but by others as well.

“But most of all he will be sorely missed by his family.”

Mr Court is survived by his wife Sandra and daughter Shonagh.
