The Bronze Age axe found at Dron.
A find believed to date back to the Bronze Age has been made in Perthshire.
Stuart Lees of Bonnyrigg was taking part in a Detecting Scotland dig on a farm near Bridge of Earn on Sunday when he found an axe head in the earth.
The 60-year-old civil servant told The Courier it is by far his most exciting find.
“This is the first axe head I have found it gave me a real buzz,” he said.
“I know there were other finds here 18 months ago but this is definitely the best dig for me. I believe this site once had hill forts on it.
“We believe it could date back to around 1500 BC. Once it is examined, the axe head should end up in Perth Museum.”
Phil Hannah, of Almondbank, who was also taking part in the dig, said the axe head was in a very good condition.
“The blade is still sharp,” he said.
The dig also uncovered silver coins and a pendant, amongst other items.
The axe head will now be taken to the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, where it will be registered, undergo data examination and a report will be carried out on its possible origins.
