Rumour Perth’s council chamber buildings will become hotel quashed

Perth’s historic council chamber buildings will not be converted into a hotel, say the council.
Reports that the Victorian building on the corner of Tay Street and High Street had been marked down as a potential development site for a luxury hotel have been dismissed.
“One to five High Street is not on the market and we are not considering putting it on the market,” said a council spokesman.
“Redevelopment was one of a number of options we considered in the past but we are no longer pursuing this.”
The building is used for some civic ceremonies.
The suggestion the building could become a hotel was originally floated by the business development group, Invest in Perth.
