A man who grabbed the throat of his friend after they had been drinking was fined £300 at Perth Sheriff Court.
Ronald Swinton, 59, of Arbroath Road, Dundee, had admitted that on May 29 at an address in New Row, Perth, he assaulted a woman by grabbing her by the arms, pushing her on to a couch, grabbing her by the throat and pushing and punching her on the body.
Depute fiscal Jim Eodanable said Swinton arrived at the woman’s flat around 5pm, and the pair then drank wine together.
“The woman raised the issue of the accused drinking to excess and he took exception to this,” Mr Eodanable said.
“The accused grabbed the woman by the throat and punched her. She then contacted the police.”
Solicitor Cliff Culley defending said his client had no recollection of the incident.
