Stephen Hendry wins battle with neighours over luxury housing development

Former snooker world champion Stephen Hendry has been given more time to start work on a luxury housing development in his back garden despite objections from neighbours.
The 46-year-old has upset residents with the plans, which would see 11 houses built behind his Auchterarder property.
The land, which measures 1.74 hectares, is primed for the development and part of it is used as a horse paddock and stables by the sportsman.
However other residents fear they could lose their privacy.
One, Colin Campbell, wrote to Perth and Kinross Council, saying: “It’s another example of a developer squeezing many properties on to a small plot.”
The estate was initially given approval in 2012 but the recession led to construction being delayed.
However the star and his neighbour, Alexander Birnie, have been given a further three years to begin building work.
In documents posted online, the council’s planning department said: “This report recommends approval of the application as the development is considered to comply with the relevant provisions of the development plan and there are no material considerations apparent which outweigh the development plan.”
