The sons of an American tourist missing in Highland Perthshire have returned to the States.
Only Susan McLean’s husband, Donald, remains in Scotland and it is unknown if and when he plans to return home.
Mrs McLean has not been seen since leaving the Moness resort in Aberfeldy at 7.45pm on May 17.
Temporary chief inspector Ian Scott said: “Her sons went back on Monday, which was their original plan.
“Mr McLean remains in the area and plans to be so for at least a few more days.”
The hunt for the 61-year-old Pennsylvania resident has also been scaled back after the weather took a turn for the worse on Wednesday afternoon.
While some officers remain in the Aberfeldy, the number involved in the search has reduced.
It is understood that sniffer dogs were deployed again on Wednesday.
Mr Scott continued: “There are less people there now the search has been scaled back somewhat.
“Specialist resources remain in the area carrying out investigations.”
A major land, water and air search, involving police, mountain rescue, sniffer dogs and a helicopter, was launched in the area following Mrs McLean’s disappearance.
The search has covered areas such as the Birks of Aberfeldy and the golf course.
One line of inquiry was that Ms McLean had become disorientated and possibly become injured.
At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a black and grey waterproof jacket, beige khaki trousers and white trainers.
She is described as being five feet eight inches tall, of medium build, with short fair hair and green eyes and has an American accent.
Mrs McLean was visiting Scotland as part of a two-week holiday with husband Donald and her two sons, Donald and James.
The self-employed horse-riding instructor has been married to Donald since 1973.
The couple live in a converted barn on Indian Springs Farm, Boiling Springs, believed to date to the 1700s.
