Police have warned that bogus workmen are demanding four figure sums of cash to carry out unnecessary roof repairs on properties in Perth.
Three men cold called at a house in Cedar Drive on Saturday morning and offered to carry out work on the roof after advising the occupants that the tiles needed replaced.
They insisted on a four-figure sum of money in cash before completing any work. One of the suspects accompanied the victim to his bank to withdraw the cash.
Fortunately, due to concerns raised by the bank, no additional funds were released.
One of the men is described as being about 5 feet 11 inches, of heavy build, and was wearing a high visibility jacket. He had access to a blue Ford transit flatbed-style vehicle.
The second man was around five feet 10 inches and of stocky build, while the third man is about five feet 10 inches and of slim build.
On Friday a man in his 20s attended an address in Albany Terrace and asked for a three-figure sum of money after claiming that he had carried out work cleaning guttering at the house.
He is described as being of medium build, with short dark hair and clean shaven.
And on Monday afternoon a rogue trader went to an address in Tibbermore Gardens and received a two figure sum of cash after falsely claiming that he would carry out roof tile repairs.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Rogue traders usually cold-call, offering to make repairs or carry out work on your house, garden or driveway. In reality they charge inflated prices for sub-standard or often completely unnecessary work.”
