The Courier takes the place of Fleet Street in the Perth edition of the popular board game.
The Courier takes the place of Fleet Street in the Perth edition of the popular board game.

The Courier has landed one of the most prestigious spots on Perth’s new Monopoly board.

The newspaper will sit in the space normally occupied by Fleet Street.

While most media companies have left the thoroughfare in recent years DC Thomson, the company which owns The Courier, maintains an office there.

Those hoping to buy the paper in the game will have to fork out £220 in Monopoly money.

Perth beat 19 Scottish locations to land its own official Monopoly board, pipping St Andrews to the post in a public vote.

The board will feature 22 Perth landmarks, with many of the Chance and Community Chest playing cards being themed as well.

The four train stations from the London original Monopoly game will be handed over to a ‘travel’ theme.

The vast majority of the other squares are being kept under wraps until the launch although it is known that the North Inch will sit in the place traditionally occupied by Old Kent Road.

The Perth-branded board will be officially revealed at Scone Palace on October 9.

A spokesperson for Winning Moves UK says: “The board is a celebration of Perth.

“We are sure it sums up the heritage and spirit of the region past, present and future.”
