A Dundee motorist caught at almost six times the legal drink-drive limit was found to have an empty vodka bottle in his car.
Graeme Smith was found slumped at the wheel of his car on the A90 on March 1.
At Perth Sheriff Court the 40-year-old was sent to prison for four months and disqualified for five years.
It was revealed that the offshore worker has two previous convictions for the same offence.
Depute fiscal Rebecca Kynaston said: “The locus was a grass verge on the A90, just north of Errol. The accused’s vehicle had been seen to be driving erratically.
“Ten minutes later his vehicle was found next to the A90.
“The accused was slumped at the wheel. The driver’s door was open and a strong smell of alcohol was present.
“His speech was found to be slurred and there was an empty vodka bottle in the centre console.”
Solicitor Ross Donnelly, defending, said: “His abstaining from alcohol when it is readily available is a difficulty he has to overcome.”
Smith, of Glenmarkie Terrace, Dundee, admitted driving on the A90, near Errol, on March 1 with 131 mics of alcohol in his system. The legal limit is 22 mics.
