A bleak outlook for children’s health in Fife has been painted by figures showing nearly a quarter of its four and five-year-olds are at risk of becoming overweight or obese.
Disturbing data from NHS Scotland shows child obesity rates are rising across Tayside and Fife against an improvement in the national picture.
In the kingdom, 23.5% of children in Primary 1 were assessed as in danger of becoming obese or overweight in 2014/15, an increase on the previous year, according to the official figures.
Nationally, the proportion has dropped to 21.8%.
Health experts warned such children are at risk of developing conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease in later life.
