Perth College UHI lecturers will strike on Wednesday.
EIS branch secretary at the institution, Sara O’Hagan, confirmed teaching colleagues and fellow public sector workers will take part in the day of action.
The college will stay open and management stressed they respect members’ right to strike.
Ms O’Hagan said: ”We do not want to strike this will be the first national strike action by lecturers and fellow teaching staff for a quarter of a century but we have been driven to this by continuing cuts to public services and sustained attacks on the living standards of public sector workers.
”We hope that students and the wider community in Perthshire will understand that we are taking this action as a last resort.
”Continuing cuts to budgets have left our education system in dire financial circumstances with fewer resources, fewer lecturing staff and a far narrower choice of educational experiences for students.”
She added: ”Lecturers are continuing to do their best to provide a quality education for learners under these difficult conditions but now their goodwill is being eroded by growing attacks on their employment terms and conditions.
”The latest government attack on pension provision would force all lecturers to pay more, work longer, and get less in the end for their pension.”
A college spokesman said: ”The college will remain open, and we will do whatever we can to ensure that disruption to our students and staff is minimised.”Schools to closePerth and Kinross Council also confirmed all schools and nurseries will close. Bin collections may not take place but emergency social care and child protection services will be covered.
