Andy Murray engaged to Kim Sears after nine years together

Tennis star Andy Murray has finally popped the question to his long-term girlfriend Kim Sears.

Andy proposed last Wednesday with an expensive diamond ring and the famous couple are said to be enjoying their engagement before they start making wedding plans.

A source revealed: “Andy spent ages thinking about the ring, he chose the design himself and picked it up last week. He then proposed on Wednesday.

“Kim said ‘yes’ immediately. They are completely besotted with each other and have been there for each other through thick and thin.

“They are just going to enjoy themselves before they start planning their big day.”

Sussex-born Miss Sears, who has an English Literature degree, has been in a relationship with Murray after the pair met at the U.S. Open in 2005. Her father is player-turned-coach Nigel Sears.

Andy’s family including his mum Judy, who starred on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing are said to be overjoyed at the news.

Andy, who is on his way to the Philippines to play in the International Premier Tennis League made no hint at the news on Twitter, instead tweeting: “Off to the Philippines for the first time today, should be a fun trip… Anyone got some suggestions for first time tourists in Manila?”

Earlier this year Murray joked that they would marry after Wimbledon.

When asked by a fan when he was going to pop the question, Murray replied: “We are getting married just after Wimbledon, should be a great day.”

Kim later took to Twitter to deny his claim.

She wrote: “FYI, nobody is getting married. His tweets need a sarcasm disclaimer.”

But in his book Seventy-Seven: My Road to Wimbledon Glory, Murray revealed that he wanted to start a family with Kim.

He said: “I would like to start a family and try to be a good father.

“That’s important to me. It’s something that I’m starting to think about because Kim and I have been together for eight years.”
