Police have launched an attempted murder investigation after a man was attacked in the doorway of his home.
The 55-year-old was seriously injured at around 1.45am in Ravenscroft Street in the Gilmerton area of Edinburgh.
He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he remains in a stable condition.
Police are treating the incident as an attempted murder.
Detective Sergeant Steven Gray, of Gayfield CID, said: “Extensive inquiries are ongoing into the attempted murder and officers are currently carrying out inquiries in the local area, and checking CCTV footage to gather more information.
“I would urge anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious to contact us as soon as possible.
“This is believed to have been an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the general public.”
