The Joint Trading Standards Service of Stirling and Clackmannanshire councils has issued an warning about scams.
The move comes after an older person was duped out of tens of thousands of pounds through a fraudulent scheme.
People who have been identified as being at risk have already been contacted, while everyone living in the Forth Valley area will be provided with information about how to identify scams.
Trading Standards officer Brian Wilson said: “We advise consumers not to trust doorstep traders. We encourage people to use one of the reputable local traders listed on our Buy With Confidence register.
Residents are advised to run through a simple checklist if they have any doubts and should be wary if they have never heard of the lottery or prize draw in question, if they have to send money and if they have to respond urgently.
They are also urged never to give out personal contact details or financial information.
