The Caird Hall in Dundee will be packed to capacity today when the largest ever D&A College awards ceremony takes place.

Nearly 450 students who have successfully completed Higher National programmes such as HNC, HND or BA degree; SVQ and PDA will attend along with family and friends.

Not only is this the biggest ceremony in terms of those attending, it is the first D&A College awards ceremony to be held under the leadership of principal Grant Ritchie who, earlier this year, declared D&A College to be the best in Scotland.

This year’s attendees are among those who had the best pass rates in higher education (HNCs and HNDs).

D&A College can also boast having the best student retention and the highest success rates for students from the most deprived areas.

This year D&A College’s highers results outstripped the national pass rate; Intermediate 2 results were also better than the national figure.

The principal will be joined on stage by guest speaker, radio DJ and presenter Gina McKie, a former college student who was taught by Mr Ritchie when she was studying radio broadcasting.

After successfully completing her college course the presenter worked at Tay FM and was promoted to head of music then programme controller.

Gina then moved to Glasgow where she hosted Clyde 1 Drive for a few years before going on to present the station’s late night show.

The ceremony starts at 2.30pm and will close with piper Rich Gordon playing the students out into City Square.
